Lenten Sermon Series
Join Pastor Tom for a moving and important worship series: The Final Week: The Most Important Days of Jesus Life. We will learn how Jesus changed the world as he stands strong against the authorities, speaks the truth to the people and reveals the power of hope toa world in need.
February 14 - The Final Week: On Monday, Jesus Cleansed the Temple
Mark 11:12-19 - Jesus’ first act in Jerusalem on Monday morning is to chase out the money-changers. For Jesus, what is important is not what draws us in to worship but how worship moves us out into the world.
February 21 - The Final Week: On Tuesday, Jesus Taught and Challenged Authority
Mark 11:20-33 - The authorities challenge Jesus by attempting to find fault in Jesus to attack him. Jesus seeks to set the people free of a system that oppresses them and chains them.
February 28 - The Final Week: Wednesday, Jesus Was Anointed and Betrayed
Mark 14:1-11 - Jesus stands with the oppressed, the hurting and those in need. The king rules over people, exiles and punishes the disobedient. Jesus grants life. Kings execute dissenters.
March 6 - The Final Week: On Thursday, Jesus Celebrated The Last Supper
Mark 14:12-25 - The Last Supper speaks on several levels- friends gathering to say goodbye, a faithful servant of God performing one last kind act with his closest advisors and, hiding in the woods, authority waits for betrayal to arrest and beat Jesus. Over all of this, is the Jewish celebration of Passover and the symbolism of the sacrificial lamb.
March 13 - The Final Week: On Friday, Jesus Died
Mark 15:1-41 - Jesus's humanity meets the Roman display of authority. Jesus’ power is revealed in his humility and willingness to serve God to the end without compromise.
During Lent we will have regular Wed night LIVE! programming with regular meals
Pastor Tom’s Sunday Evening Study - February 14, 21 March 6, 13 - 5:00 Potluck & 5:30 Study
Along with our Sunday morning sermon series, join Pastor Tom for a new Sunday night Bible Study based on the Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan work The Last Week: What the Gospel's Really Teach about Jesus's Final Days in Jerusalem. Using the gospel of Mark as a guide, we will take a day-by-day account of Jesus's final week of life.
The Last Week depicts Jesus giving up his life to protest power without justice and to condemn the rich who lack concern for the poor. We will meet a new Jesus who engages us and invites us to follow him.

Join Us in Supporting a Refugee Family
We're excited for our refugee family's arrival in February and are busy with preparations. We don't have a date or family information yet, but will share the news as soon as we get it. How can you help? Pray for the family that will soon be coming into our community as well as our team who will be supporting the family in the transition to their new home. Material Goods Donations - When our refugee family lands at the airport they will be exhausted and have virtually no material resources. We will be setting up their apartment so it is move-in ready. We have set up a Refugee Angel Tree in the Fellowship Hall. On the tree are post-it leaves with items needed for our family. There are a variety of needs from toothpaste and dish soap to bath towels to pots and pans. Please check out the tree and consider donating an item. Take the leaf with what you would like to contribute and return with the item and place in the donation bin by the Angel Tree. Your prayers, donations and support are appreciated! If you have any questions regarding the Refugee Family and how you can help, see Martha Rice, Community Outreach Director or Catherine Solheim.
