Children's Programming

Children’s Sunday Learning Program

Children Age 3-5th grade attend Sunday School. Sunday School begins at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings following the Children's Moments during the Worship Service. Each year we select a curriculum which is intended to both educate and excite the children to learn more about God. Children are divided into three groups: Preschool - ages 3–5, Grades K–2 and Grades 3-5.

We ask that parents fill out a registration sheet when enrolling a child for the first time.  Each September we ask parents to verify and/or update the information we have in our database as we prepare for a new year of Sunday School.

The schedule for the children on Sunday morning

10:00  Children join their parents for the opening our our Sunday Worship Service and the Children’s Message
10:15  Children leave for Kid’s Church held in the Chapel
10:25  Children go to age graded Sunday School Classes
11:00  Sunday School dismissed and children go to Choir practice

All Sunday School classes are held in the Education/East Wing. For safety reasons children must be picked up the in classroom each week.  Please do not take your child out of class unless absolutely necessary.  It will disturb the class.   We will dismiss 3rd, 4th & 5th graders on their own unless parents request otherwise.

Grades K – 5th

Children are divided into two groups:  K, 1st and 2nd in one group and 3rd, 4th and 5th in the second.  The curriculum we are using is PowerXpress Rotation.  In a rotational learning setting, the same Bible story or theme is taught for several weeks.  Each week, learners rotate to a different station.  The story remains the same, but the children encounter it in different ways.  The stations include: Art, Creative Cookery, Game, Music/Movement, Science, Storytelling & Video.

The stations are based on the Multiple Intelligence Theory, the idea that we learn in different ways.  Some will learn by more visual ways and others by using their body.  There are seven different Intelligences, with a possibility of an eighth & ninth, nature & spiritual.

Preschool Ages 3 – 5

The preschool follows the same schedule and curriculum as the other grades.  They do however meet in the Sunshine Nursery rooms.  Children in this age group learn extensively through play.  This is their work.  We use the same curriculum, but modified.  Play is built into the curriculum for both learning and fun.  Children are eager to come back for more lessons, because they are fun!

Expectation for Parents

*  Say YES when asked to help.  We need everyone’s help to build and sustain our Christian Education Ministry.  There are many types of opportunities to meet all desired levels of participation.
*  Regular attendance makes a big difference in your child’s faith development – and it’s up to you!  Teachers work hard to prepare lessons and we purchase supplies & curriculum for every child.  We truly do miss you when you’re not here!
*  Help your child become a faithful giver by your example and you reminders about Sunday School offering.
*  We ask that each parent visit their child’s class for at least one session during the year.  Your visit will help to make your child feel special.  It will give you a chance to meet your child’s classmates and see you Sunday School up close.  Talk with your child’s teacher to arrange a visit.

Expectation for Children

*  Arrive at Church ready for learning, fellowship and fun.
*  Help to make your class a warm and welcoming place for all who come – children and adults.
*  Help take care of the rooms and equipment we use during Sunday School – it’s everyone’s job!
*  Remember to bring your Sunday School offering.
*  3rd, 4th & 5th graders need to bring their Bibles every week.

Our Prayer to the Parents of our Children

All children are part of our family
because all children belong to You.
Lord, lead us to help meet the needs
        of children everywhere.
Children cannot control their world;
they are dependent on those of us
                who care for them.
Children need us to nurture them
so that someday they will be strong enough
                to sustain this ever-changing world.
Help us to love our families,
        to provide adequately for them,
but also to remember our responsibility
                        to the human family.
