Simply pick up a card as you enter the sanctuary and drop it in the offering plate instead of your regular envelope. DONATE YOUR EXTRA 2011 CALENDARS – Are you starting to collect those free calendars sent out to people this time of year in order to solicit contributions or your business? Recycling is one solution - another is to donate these to people who could really use them. A box is now available near the bulletin boards in the Fellowship Hall. Bring your unwanted or unneeded calendars and they will be brought to Good Samaritan Society –Maplewood (Roselawn & Edgerton) Thanks! Nancy & Andrew Herther FOOD DONATIONS – We don’t want to forget that people in our community are hungry year-round. We collect non-perishable food items in the bin in the Fellowship Hall every week. Thank you for your support. Youth Happenings are always available on the Youth Page. EventsUMW Circles Meet in September – After a summer break the UMW Circles will meet during September. UMW QUILTING GROUP - We resume meeting on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays each month, starting September 9 at 10:00 a.m. Please consider joining us! Last year we contributed 28 children’s quilts to crisis care centers. Much fabric has been donated for us to work with, and we say THANK YOU to people for the help. Those of us in the group have fun planning and doing our projects, and we have a sense of accomplishment for community mission. Other work planned for this year includes projects for the “Cookies & Craft Sale” in December. Please join us! Children's News - On Rally Sunday, all the children will be together. We will be playing some get-acquainted games and making nametags. Our new unit this fall is David, the boy followed by David, the King! We are looking forward to being together again and learning about God’s history and world. DEAD SEA SCROLLS – On Wednesday, September 15, Kathryn Schifferdecker, an Assistant Professor of the Old Testament from Luther Seminary will give a talk on the Dead Sea Scrolls. The following Tuesday, September 21, we have tickets for 20 people (and only 20) to attend the Dead Sea Scroll exhibit at the Science Museum. The cost is $22 (a real bargain) and includes the Dead Sea Scrolls, entrance to the Omniplex Theater 2 (Arabia) and admission to the Science Museum. We will meet at the church around 9:30 a.m. and car pool to the museum. We will be at the Museum from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch is available on the premises at the Elements Café. This is a special group rate for seniors and the best price in town! Sign Up is at the Welcome Center – there are only FIVE spots left! Please contact Maxine for more information. UNITED METHODIST WOMEN-SPONSORED GATHERING—Thursday, September 16, 7:00 p.m. For more than 100 years, United Methodist Women have been involved in mission that includes prayer, study, and action. The UMW Reading Program, sponsored by the national UMW organization, is an additional study opportunity open to all women. Join us on Thursday, September 16, as Evelyn Hunt introduces us to the Reading Program. We will also hear book highlights from women who are participating in the program. All women of the church are invited. Please sign up at the Welcome Center if possible. Hope to see you there. The Children's Choir begins on Sunday, September 19. We practice in The Chapel right after Sunday School. While the children are practicing, we encourage the parents to have a cup of coffee with friends. The children will have their snacks in the Sunday School room following the choir practice. ATTENTION All singers, would-be-singers, want-to-be-singers !!! Choir is the place for YOU! We rehearse Wednesday evenings from 7:30-8:30 and on Sunday mornings from 9:15 to service time. All are welcome to the Kick-Off Potluck on Wednesday, September 1. We will meet about 6:00ish and rehearse after eating. Please contact Luana Mitchell, Choir Director if you have questions. THE BELL CHOIRS took the summer off. We will start up again in September.
